Intensity - The Artist Retreat For Stylists Who Love Color Recap
Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning - Diane Ackerman
Hair stylists, when was the last time you felt FREE enough to play? We love in a noisy world and often have obnoxious voices in our head that tell us to grow up, be adults, and stop playing.
On day 1 of the Intensity Color Retreat we demolished the box containing what we’re “supposed” to do. And just played.
With paint
With clay
With music
With rest
We challenged ourselves to understand what art meant to us and if we consider ourselves artists/artisans.
We ended the day with a much needed Yoga Nidra session with @patricecgraham that had many of us floating off to sleep, getting the deep rest our bodies and mind have been craving.
Day 2 we dove into placement & tonal inspiration for tight curls with four exceptional Guide Artisans that shared their color artistry with us.
It’s so easy to get bored doing the same services over and over again. When our creativity is low it’s time to fill the tank. Alayah Shabazz @slay_by_lay Rebekah Murphy @ladybeckaa_anointedhands Laquita Burnett @hairbylaquitaburnett and CIK Mentor Stylist Sonnie Carolina @silkedbysonnie DID THE DAMN THING!!!
From open air painting techniques to Vivids, the insight into executing on Level 2-4 tight curls was unmatched. We achieved icy high lift with Blonde Solutions Lightener and Product Club color foil with Laquita . I would never have thought 35vol and lighter could be safe for curls but she proved me wrong that day.
Alayah gave use flame inspired curly color melt done on her Kurly Koils Salon coworker Deja. Becca served a taper cut galaxy rainbow, and Sonnie breezed by to share her versatile curly to straight highlighting techniques.
After we filled up on inspiration, we chilled with a free-form paint and sip for everyone to enjoy with alcoholic selections along with margarita mocktails featuring Seedlip Drinks 0 proof tequila alternative Notas De Agave
On Day 3 we put our play into practice with a color session on tight curl mannequins. Each attendee developed their hair color masterpiece from conception to completion using the insight and tools of the previous two days.
No creative idea was too much or not enough. We challenged them at every juncture to choose the scary, less traveled route. There were successes and their were discoveries, including being introduced to the new CurlMix Purple shampoo that toned a very brassy mannequin to a chillingly icy blonde in quick time.
And yes the mannequins were left outside to process in the hot Raleigh sun. No mannequin was harmed in the making of these colors ;)
