Your Work Certifies You
Forget a certificate. It’s time to reprogram ourselves from the traditional salon and stylist mindset surrounding them. Is it truly possible to retain enough information from a 1-3 day class to return to the salon and excellently execute what you learned?
It Took Me Five Years to Learn How to Cut Hair
Cut It Kinky isn’t going to teach you a specific haircut. In cosmetology school the step by step haircuts in my Milady’s/Aveda textbook looked like Greek to me. I had such trouble understanding partings and elevation that my instructor stayed with me after school for two hours on a Saturday night just reviewing how to cut the occipital of this particular haircut.
Tight Curls Defined
Tight Curls are more than a curl pattern or a designation in the imaginary curl alphabet. Tight curls are cultural. They exist in historical hair care practices, community aesthetics, and shared stories/memories.
It’s the Joy for Us
Recie gave us all the lewks after her session as a client model for our in person Tight Curl Mastery workshop in Santa Rosa, CA. Her reaction to the transformation we were able to make with her hair is why Cut It Kinky is not your traditional cosmetology education company.

Representation Matters
If you have been asking yourself “How do I/we attract more tight curly + natural hair clients?” The short and the long answer is, REPRESENTATION MATTERS. Just like your prospective clients, we do a bit of internet stalking of our current and prospective students Online Real Estate.
The Texture Elephant In the Room

Why Cut It Kinky Education Doesn’t Use Mannequin Heads
During a first time client appointment we are often doing a corrective cut on hair that may have holes throughout the shape, a baby crown, or variations of both. Our job as curl specialists is to assess the current condition of the hair and explain to our clients where their hair is currently.
What Are Tight Curl Clients Seeking?
What are tight curl clients seeking? Insight. They’ve watched all the YouTube, read all the blogs, and asked all of the questions in their free Facebook groups. Information is everywhere and they have consumed it like they were drinking from a firehose.
